The Major League Gaming association has announced that the upcoming Winter Championships event will see Halo: Reach return as a competitive video game franchise, with players able to compete with each other for a prize pool that comes in at 56,000 dollars (42,089 Euro).

The Winter Championship will take place between March 23 and 25 in Columbus, Ohio and gamers will be able to go to the location itself and witness the matches or stay at home and simply use streaming to keep up with the action.

Starcraft 2 has also been confirmed as being part of the competition and the organizers are also promising that they will offer information of other titles that will be part of the line-up.

Before the Winter Championships, the MLG is also organizing a series of other qualifying competitions during February.

The pro-gaming circuit has managed record audiences and profits during 2011 and plans to have another good year that will include the introduction of a number of new games to the circuit.
