2K Sports has announced that it is launching a new MLB 2K11 contest which will award a prize of 1 million United States dollars to that player who throws a perfect game in the upcoming baseball simulation.
MLB 2K11 is set to arrive on the PC, the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3, the PSP handheld and the Wii, so there are plenty of devices for players to accommodate themselves to the game.
The official launch date for the game is set to March 8, but in order to get as many players a chance to take part, the actual contest will begin on April 1.
Chris Snider, who is the marketing director at 2K Sports, has talked about the change in the age requirements, saying “Last year, Halladay’s son, who is about 13-years-old, was telling us about how he was going for the perfect game and had it through seven innings. We were listening to him, but at the same time we were cringing a bit because the rules last year stated that you had to be 18-years-old to win the million dollars.”
He added, “So this year, we opened it up even further and dropped the age limit to 13. We took this directly from Roy’s kid and wanted more people to have the chance to go for the perfect game this year.”
Wade McGilberry, hailing from Semmes, Alabama, was the gamer who took home the million dollars in 2010, managing to get his perfect game on the very first day of the competition.
2K Sports is probably hoping that the challenge included in its content and the value of the prize offered will persuade a lot of baseball players to pick up MLB 2K11 in its first week on sale, making it a good seller for the company.
Roy Halladay is the cover athlete for the most recent version of MLB.
