MKVToolNix, a set of tools to create, alter and inspect Matroska files under Linux and other platforms, has now reached version 6.0.0.

Highlights of MKVToolNix 6.0.0:

• Implemented splitting by parts based on frame/field numbers;
• The track headers have been rewritten after they'd grown a lot (to more than the EBML void size located after them allowed for) and led to an integer underflow;
• The language code conversion has been fixed (what is used from MP4 to the ISO 639-2 codes);
• Source code archives (tarballs) will be compressed with xz instead of bzip2 from now on.

A complete changelog can be found in the official announcement.

With MKVToolNix, users can get information about (mkvinfo) Matroska files, extract tracks/data from (mkvextract) Matroska files and create (mkvmerge) Matroska files from other media files.
