Motorola has recently started the roll-out of the over-the-air Android 2.1 software update for the Motorola MILESTONE, though not in all markets where the device is currently available, it seems. While users in France and Italy are able to enjoy the latest version of Google's Android operating system on their handsets, those living in the UK and Germany (Vodafone customers) will still have to wait a little longer for the solution to become available for them.

“For UK Milestone owners and those on Vodafone Germany, we apologise for the delay in the upcoming 2.1 upgrade. Issues occurred in testing on the networks and this has held up the process. We are now in final testing for the UK and assuming no further issues arise, this will be released next week. For Vodafone in Germany, we are looking to release later this week. As soon as dates are confirmed, we will let you know,” Motorola Europe notes on its Facebook page.

Yesterday, the handset vendor updated its Android 2.1 roll-out plans for all of its mobile phones running under the operating system, saying that the deployment of MILESTONE's update had already started in Europe. While UK and Vodafone Germany users will be announced on the availability of the solution in the near future, those living in France and Italy can already update their handsets to the new OS flavor.

Those willing to do so will have to access the 'Settings' menu on their devices, tap the 'About Phone' button, and then hit System Updates. However, we should mention that the update is being deployed in stages, meaning that not all users will find the software available for download right away. According to a recent post on phandroid, some of those who installed the update reported various issues with it, such as slow performance with the device, though nothing solid has emerged so far.
