Hideo Kojima, the creator and the current leading developer working on the Metal Gear Solid series, says that the upcoming The Phantom Pain is being inspired by a variety of older video games, including Super Mario, Xevious, The Portopia Serial Murder Case and Outer World.

The game maker is using his official Twitter channel to deliver more details about his work to fans and to prepare them for the launch of the new 30-minute-long gameplay filled demo for the new Metal Gear Solid experience, which was previously only shown during E3 2014.

Kojima states, “Unlike linear game, in open world game, we can't use the method of creating one spot thoroughly and move to next spot. Instead we are required to create endless map and vast degree of action freedom on the field in order to accomplish gradually. Thus showing the gameplay demo at this stage is still in early stage, but we do it just because we received high demand from users.”

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is set to be a direct sequel to Ground Zeroes, which was launched earlier during the year, and will allow gamers to take control of Big Boss, also known as Venom Snake, as he enters Afghanistan bent to get his revenge on all those who have hurt him before.

The game will use an open world structure, which is a first for the series, and will include mechanics from the stealth and the action adventure genre, with some unique new elements that Hideo Kojima has introduced in order to surprise his loyal fan base.

The new Metal Gear Solid experience will use the Fox Engine, which was designed from the ground up to deliver impressive graphics and use all the computing power offered by the new generation of home consoles.

The team has also promised that fan favorite characters will have major roles to play in the narrative and that all newcomers will also have clear, fleshed out personalities.

Hideo Kojima says that his new title is designed to give players the freedom they need in order to explore the game world and set their own objectives, following the core story only when they feel that they are prepared.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be launched on the PlayStation 4 from Sony, the Xbox One from Microsoft and current-gen consoles and Konami has not yet offered an official launch window for the title.
