Hello Momo (not Moto)

MomoDesign, an Italian design company, has recently launched its latest product, the MD-3, which comes as a fashionable handset with mobile TV capabilities.

The new phone has a clamshell form factor and two displays, an internal and an external one, that users can turn to 180 degrees and change their places. The internal, main display is a 2.2 inch one with 240 x 320 pixels and 262K colors, while the external one is a 1.2 inch OLED with 96 x 64 pixels.

MD-3 features a DVB-H tuner that, relying on the HSDPA 3.6 Mbps connectivity the handset comes with, will bring users lots of TV programs on the main display of the phone, at a fairly good quality (or at least that's what we?re assuming).

Other features of the new MomoDesign handset include a 2 Megapixel camera, a secondary camera for video calls, Bluetooth, Music player (MP3, AMR, AAC, AAC+, WAV and MIDI supported), Video player (MPEG-4, H.263 and H.264), Internet and email capabilities, handsfree, 45MB of internal memory and microSD card support to extend it up to 2GB.

The MD-3 is not actually produced by MomoDesign, but by ZTE, a China-based manufacturer, hence the Italian company only designed the handset. We know this because the two companies have announced their collaboration back in February, during MWC 2008, when another phone, the MD-2, was unveiled.

MomoDesign MD-3 can be bought only in Italy (for the moment), from 3 Italia, the sole operator in the country that offers only 3G services.

With almost 8 million users, 3 is the fourth largest Italian carrier, behind TIM, Vodafone and Wind. This, however, does not stop the Hutchison-owned operator to offer stylish handsets like the newly presented MD-3 from MomoDesing and ZTE.

In the future, more handsets from MomoDesign will probably appear, which is a good thing, considering the current ones that look pretty good.
