Customers of the MBNA bank have often been targeted by cybercriminals who want to gain access to their online banking records.

According to a scam report from millersmiles.co.uk, a new fake notification entitled “Your MBNA credit card statements” is currently making the rounds.

“Dear Value Customer, Your new official monthly statement is now available for you to view online. Log in to Online Card Services to view your latest account statement. You'll be able to view all transactions posted to your account,” the bogus emails read.

To ensure that they’re legitimate-looking, the fraudsters have even added a 4-digit code that allegedly represents the last 4 digits of the recipient’s account number.

Users who click on the links contained in the notification are taken to a malicious webpage, usually hosted on a compromised website. Here they’re asked to provide all sorts of sensitive information, including usernames, passwords, PINs and other financial details.

MBNA is well aware of these scams, that’s why the company provides customers with a guide on how to identify fake emails.
