In a recent announcement about a new Update Pack for the Linux Mint Debian Edition operating system, Clement Lefebvre has revealed that the upcoming Linux Mint 16 distribution will include Cinnamon 2.0 and MATE 1.8.

It's official! The highly anticipated Linux Mint 16 (Petra) will include the yet-to-be-released Cinnamon 2.0 and MATE 1.8 desktop environments, as the Linux Mint developer revealed in a recent blog post "LMDE ISOs will be updated with Update Pack 8 after the Mint 16 release to feature MATE 1.8, Cinnamon 2.0 and all the improvements planned for the upcoming version of Linux Mint."

Linux Mint 16 will be dubbed Petra, and it will be officially available for download by the end of November 2013, as Clement Lefebvre himself revealed this summer.

Linux Mint 16 will be distributed in separate editions, with the Cinnamon, MATE, KDE and Xfce desktop environments. Support for both 64-bit and 32-bit architectures will be provided.

The Release Candidate version of Linux Mint 16 (Petra) should see the light of day in the next couple of weeks, so make sure you check our website regularly for the latest news.
