The handset is resistant to shocks

BenQ-Siemens has announced a new device, the M81 sport phone. The handset measures 105.3 x 47.5 x 18.4 mm, weighs 96 grams and is covered by a sturdy rubber casing that makes the phone resistant to shocks.

The M81 features a scratch resistant TFT display that supports a 132 x 176 pixel resolution in 262k colors. Users can take pictures using a 1.3 mega pixel camera with flash and capable of video recording, which is hidden under a dust and water protective cover. The phone has also musical capabilities, as it includes a built- in MP3 player that can be used in conjunction with stereo headsets.

The storage space is provided by 27 MB of internal memory that can be further extended by using Micro-SD cards. Connectivity features include Bluetooth, Infrared and USB. EDGE support ensures that files are downloaded at high speeds. The battery allows for 300 minutes of talk time and 300 hours of standby time. Other phone specifications include video ring tones, WAP, email, Java, MMS, SMS.

The M81 will be available in August 2006.
