NEC Electronics will bring the M2 Mobile Phone Chip as to develop a more reliable technology for mobile phones. The new concept will be using Transmeta's LongRun2 solutions, one which manages to bring the best solutions for delivering smaller, more compact devices on the telecom market.

This type of technology has been available for some
time now, as NEC Electronics has managed to become Transmeta's first LongRun2 licensee in March 2004. From that point on, its M2 Mobile Phone Chip is the first licensed product to make this technology available at a large scale.

The advantage that this type of support brings is that designs can be moved to finer process geometries. Due to LongRun2, manufacturing distributions can be tightened, while active power can also be considerably reduced and standby power minimized. Moreover, this can also make it easier for SOI-based designs to bulk Silicon-based process. What LongRun2 additionally brings is made of algorithms, innovative circuits, unique devices and structures, software and manufacturing optimization methods for best results.

"This is an important milestone and demonstrates the value that LongRun2 technologies provide to our customers", said Les Crudele, president and chief executive officer of Transmeta. This being the case, "Transmeta congratulates NEC Electronics on its M2 product announcement. We are proud that NEC Electronics has incorporated LongRun2 technologies as one key element of the low power capabilities of their 65nm process technology", Les Crudele further declared.

Transmeta Corporation is a developer and licenser of innovating computing, microprocessor and semiconductor technologies as well as related intellectual property. This company has been among the first to design, develop and bring out on the market x86-compatible software-based microprocessors, which deliver a balance of low power consumption, high performance, low cost and small size best suited for a wide range of computing platforms.
