Most major networks have nixed various under-performing series from their schedule this week but some, like Fox, tried to make it up to fans by announcing new ones. Fox actually did better, releasing a trailer for a project it’s got lined up for a 2015 release.

It’s called “Wayward Pines” and it’s executive produced by M. Night Shyamalan and created by Chad Hodge. Its principal cast is also pretty impressive, as you will undoubtedly see for yourself in the first trailer released, available below.

The story seems pretty straightforward: a Special Agent is traveling to a town where he’s to investigate a disappearance, when the car he and his partner are driving is hit by a speeding truck. Only one of them makes it to Wayward Pines alive, though in a bad shape from the accident, but he won’t be finding any answers to his questions here.

The first half of the trailer bears a very striking and not at all flattering resemblance to David Lynch’s iconic TV series “Twin Peaks,” from the overall atmosphere to the actual images and settings used. In the second half, though, we find out that things are really not what they seem, and the similarity ceases to exist.

Matt Dillon, my main crush from my teenage years, plays the Special Agent in question. The supporting cast includes Melissa Leo, Juliette Lewis, Terrence Howard, Carla Gugino and Toby Jones. Despite the aforementioned “Twin Peaks” similarity and the fact that Shyamalan has his reputation working against him right now because of a series of resounding flops, I’d still give this 10-hour thriller a try. What about you?
