The hottest act on the scene just surfaced again on her Myspace blog to announce that she is preparing to take the music industry by storm and show people who M.I.A really is. After the success the singer got last year, with her debut album and her sold-out concerts both in Europe and the US, Mathangi 'Maya' Arulpragasam reveals that she has been working on her brand new album for quite a while now.
Initially, rumor included hit producer Timbaland in the picture but M.I.A set the record straight in the announcement she posted yesterday, saying that she would be producing the new material herself. She also added that the recording was done exclusively in India and Trinidad de Tobago.
The Sri Lanka-raised performer is about to launch a single, called 'Bird Flu' from the yet untitled album. The video for it was shot in India, in a village that was recently hit by Tsunami. 'The video I did out there in a fishing village in south coast of India. The village was hit by a tsunami, but they still were in good shape!! We practically moved there and had the craziest time going out fishing everyday. And I always used to say that one day I'm gonna run away and marry a fisherman and live happily ever after and I thought damn I was close to seeing the reality of my forever plan b.', M.I.A's post says.
As to the not so common name of the track, the artist has a perfectly sound explanation. In the post on her official website, she says: 'We discovered an amazing boy who can out dance anything I've ever seen. He invented me the bird flu dance. I called this bird flu because this beat gon kill everyone!'.
