Lyon was just too good for Steaua the other night. The French side took control of the match from the 3rd minute of the game and never let it go. Steaua's fans grew to the high expectations of a Champions League match. They created an extraordinary atmosphere throughout the match, but that just wasn't enough.

The home side gave the impression that they could stun Lyon from the early minutes. Gabriel Bostina wasted a perfect free kick from 20 meters, shooting way off the crossbar. Lyon soon got their chance, but Carlos saved Juninho's
free kick a few minutes later.

Steaua continued to press Lyon's midfield and the first 20 minutes went down pretty senseless: the French side making lots of mistakes, and Steaua not counting on the attack. Lyon slowly started to dominate the midfield and gave the home side a little taste of powerful football in the 40th minutes, when Toulalan's shot from 35 meters was saved by Carlos.

Only 3 minutes later, the Portuguese goalie threw away his team's effort and practically gifted Lyon with the opener. Juninho's deflected free kick was caught by Carlos, but Steaua's goalkeeper couldn't hold on to it. He spilled the ball and Fred was right there to take advantage of it. It was the Brazilian's 2nd goal in as many matches, as Lyon took the lead before the break.

The second half was pretty much a practice session for Lyon, who managed to press, pass, dribble and shoot whenever they liked. Soon after the French side scored the second - Tiago headed Juninho's corner kick - Lyon let Steaua the midfield. Still, the Romanian side didn't manage to endanger Coupet's goal. The only shot on goal came from Badea, late in the game.

Lyon ended the match in style, with an offensive play that made all the Romanian fans stand up and applaud. Juninho heeled a pass to Benzema, and the Lyon striker fired across goal in the right hand corner. It was 3-0, and the fans were enjoying the show.
The other match of Group E ended with a convincing win from Real Madrid, against Dynamo Kiev. The Spanish side scored 5 times and allowed only one goal against the East-Europeans, climbing up to 2nd in the Group standings.
