Lyon Clinch Historical Title

Olympique Lyon became the first French team in history to win Ligue 1 five times in a row. And they did it in style. The away match at PSG could have solved the Championship equation with a win for the visitors. And Brazilian striker Fred sure took care of that. In the 24th minute of the game, Fred headed home a Lyon corner kick, to give his team the lead. The Parisians were unable to respond, since Lyon midfield did an impeccable job, allowing no major chances for the PSG players.

"I think we deserved to win by a bigger margin," said Houllier after the game. "We dominated the game, we were solid. We now have to play like champions. We must not let anything go until the end of the season. It's our duty," continued the Frenchman.

Lyon is undefeated this Ligue 1 season since the 4th of March, when they lost at Caen. Now they've become the third team to reach 12 away wins per season, after St. Etienne and Marseille. The team is only one point away from reaching last year point-margin, when they finished the Championship on 79 points.

Gerard Houllier`s players now stand 17 points clear in the standings, with only 3 rounds to go. They secured the title on Saturday, when Bordeaux lost 3-2 away to Lille. The team led by coach Gomes Rocardo rank 2nd, on 61 points.
