Customers embracing Lync Server 2010 can access a free tool from Microsoft designed to help them test their deployment. As is the case with all IT infrastructures, the one used for Lync 2010 will be put to test once the deployment is wrapped up and users start leveraging it.

By taking advantage of the Stress and Performance Tool from the software giant, IT professionals can make sure that their Lync Server 2010 deployment is capable of dealing with the load that users will put on it.

Obviously, the tool is tailored for on-premise Lync Server 2010 deployments, and will help with stress testing and performance validation scenarios.

The installation package offered by the Redmond company provides customers with the documentation necessary to make the best out of the free resources offered by Microsoft.

According to the software giant, the Lync Server 2010 Stress and Performance Tool packs:

“•StressConfig - You use StressConfig.exe to create users and contacts.

•UserProfileGenerator - You use UserProfileGenerator.exe to configure the input parameters for the load tool as specified in the desired user profile.

•OCSStress - OCSStress.exe is the client simulation tool.

•Default - You need Default.tmx to use the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Logging Tool.

•MaxUserPort - You use the MaxUserPort.reg registry script to set the MaxUserPort registry key so that the client can open more than 5000 Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) connections.”

Microsoft is advising customers that for every 3,000 users whose load they need to simulate, to leverage a machine with at least a 1 gigabit network adapter, 4 GB RAM, and a 2 dual-core processor.
