An updated version of the Lync Server 2010 Resource Kit is now available for download free of charge from Microsoft.

Customers interested in getting insight into the software giant’s latest unified communications offering need to make their way to the Download Center and grab the Resource Kit for Lync 2010.

The latest refresh to the resource brings a new chapter, dubbed Enhanced Presence, but if users haven’t downloaded the Resource Kit in quite a while, they’re bound to come across additional content introduced by the Redmond company.

“In this chapter, you learn about the enhanced presence service provided by Lync Server 2010 that relays presence information between two communication entities,” a member of the Microsoft Lync Server Resource Kit team said.

“The process involves SIP-based messaging to enable the presence publication, subscription, and querying. This presence system is versatile and can handle any application-specific presence data. The versatility is supported by a flexible XML-based presence data model as represented by the enhanced presence category.”

The enhanced presence service is designed to bridge Lync Server 2010 communication entities, according to the software giant.

The resource Kit now provides valuable information on just how information is being relayed through the enhanced service presence.

The latest added chapter “describes the enhanced presence data model and enhanced presence operations, including publication and subscription,” the company said.

Customers should make sure to check back to the Download Center page for the Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Resource Kit, since the book will continually evolve with the introduction of new updates.

At this point in time, Microsoft offers a range of chapters, available as standalone downloads, but also the entire Lync Server 2010 Resource Kit book as a .ZIP file.
