A Lync 2010 extension from Microsoft is designed to enable users speaking different languages to IM seamlessly in their own native tongues, and still understand each other.

The Conversation Translator Add-In for Microsoft Lync 2010 is now available for download from the software giant, free of charge.

As the official label of the download implies, the add-in is set up to facilitate communications through instant messaging by translating conversations one line of text at a time.

“Conversation Translator provides a real-time language translation service for Lync instant messaging (IM) conversations,” Microsoft reveals.

“With Conversation Translator, both the sender and receiver can converse in their native language, and Conversation Translator handles the translation.”

At the same time, the Lync 2010 Conversation Translator Add-In is not the only resource that the Redmond company is offering to users of the latest iteration of its unified communications solution.

The Conversation Translator Add-In for Microsoft Lync 2010 Getting Started Guide is also live on the Microsoft Download Center, and also available free of charge.

“This download contains ConversationTranslator.msi, the installer package for Conversation Translator. Conversation Translator provides a real-time language translation service for Lync instant messaging (IM) conversations,” the company added.

The Lync 2010 Conversation Translator Add-In is based on the machine translation technology that the Redmond company has been developing for years.

In this regard, the add-in is powered by the same engine behind Bing Translations, namely the Microsoft Translator Web Service.

This makes possible IM conversations between Lync 2010 users in no less than 35 languages, according to the Redmond company, with the extension supporting translation between all language pairs.

Customers that have any problems using the new add-in can certainly turn to the Conversation Translator Add-In for Microsoft Lync 2010 Getting Started Guide for help.
