A new free tool from Microsoft can help customers improve their communications skills via instant messaging, provided that they use Lync 2010.

Conversations Analyzer for Microsoft Lync 2010 is available for download from the Redmond company, a solution designed, as the label implies, to review Lync instant messaging (IM) conversation history and provide insight into just how effective communications are, trust-wise.

“Do you use positive or negative language when communicating to your direct reports? How about with your friends? Are you being transparent and honest? The language you use in your communications can produce anxiety and low morale, or it can help create a high-trust environment where people feel safe, hopeful, and energized,” Microsoft notes.

This is precisely the kind of details that the Conversations Analyzer is designed to assess while determining the impact on trust of the conversation terms used.

“Conversations Analyzer for Microsoft Lync 2010 reviews your instant messaging (IM) conversation history and gives you scores for your use of trust-building language in day-to-day communications with business associates and friends,” the software giant stated.

“Conversations Analyzer for Lync 2010 applies trust rules to determine the occurrence of words and phrases that have a positive or negative effect on trust. Only your IM conversation history is reviewed. The results are not uploaded anywhere. The scores are meant to be used only by you.”

Lync 2010 users can download the free Conversations Analyzer and give it a try, since it might improve their conversational techniques, and the efficiency of their communications.

Customers that need a tad of help with the new tool, can head to the Microsoft Download Center and grab the “Conversations Analyzer for Microsoft Lync 2010 Getting Started Guide,” which is also offered free of charge by the Redmond company.

Obviously, users will need to be running Lync 2010 and leverage its IM functionality in order to also take advantage of Conversations Analyzer.
