Starting today, owners of Nokia Lumia 925 smartphones on the network of wireless carrier Vodafone Australia can download and install the Lumia Cyan software update on their devices.

The operator has officially announced the availability of this update, while also offering a glimpse of what it will provide users with in terms of new features and enhancements.

Lumia Cyan is the Windows Phone 8.1-based firmware update that Microsoft is currently pushing to Lumia handsets out there and includes more than just the improvements that the new operating system iteration was announced with.

Thus, following its installation, users will see that a renewed People Hub is available for them, featuring integration of native social feeds, and that a new flavor of the Internet Explorer browser is now included in the OS.

Additionally, the platform upgrade comes with Wi-Fi Sense, a feature that will enable them to find closest Wi-Fi networks and auto-connect to open networks.

Lumia Cyan will also provide users with Bluetooth LE support, as well as with built-in support for IKEv2/IPSEC gateways, and with a secure NFC & Wallet platform.

Other enhancements that Nokia Lumia 925 owners on Vodafone Australia’s network will enjoy include Action Center (swiping down from top will open quick settings), along with a series of Enterprise features.

As the wireless carrier notes in a post on its support website, the update also delivers enhancements such as:

- Back-up and Restore i.e. Back-up your start screen layout, passwords, browser favorites and most settings to cloud and restore from the cloud; - Battery Sense – Tracks and reveals battery use per app; - Data Sense 2 – Set limits and follow for your data usage; - Storage Sense & Memory Management – See what is taking up space in your phone.

The new platform iteration will be rolling out to users as software version 8.10.12393.890 and will arrive over the air. However, the carrier notes that users should connect to a Wi-Fi network before starting to download it.

They can manually check on the availability of the update by heading to Settings > Phone update > Check for updates.

Should the update be available for them, users will be able to download and install it immediately. The installation process should take around 5 to 10 minutes, after which the handset will restart.

“From 2.00am AEST on the 25th of July 2014, you can get the Lumia Cyan Windows Phone 8.1 update for your Nokia Lumia 925,” Vodafone also notes on the aforementioned support website, where it also lists some additional details on the update.
