Sony has a bunch of VAIO laptops up for sale around the world, from weak to overpowered ones, but it felt that it could do better on the high-end front, especially when it came to luxury pieces.

That is why it has officially introduced the VAIO | Red edition series of mobile personal computing systems.

They aren't new notebooks, exactly. Rather, they are aesthetically optimized versions of products like VAIO Duo, VAIO Pro and VAIO Fit.

The red finish is produced through a variety of painting techniques. The technique is chosen based on the material selected for the lid, like aluminum and carbon fiber.

Sony didn't go too far into details regarding specifications, but that's not surprising, since they vary from device to device and from user to user.

Suffice to say, the memory, storage, CPUs and video capabilities can be customized. Only the high-end "display technologies, exceptional camera quality and audio technology" are assured.

"Sony has a tradition of designing products built on passion and innovation," said Pedro LaFarga, SVP, Sony VAIO & Networked Products Division.

"The new VAIO | red edition is the ultimate in superior PC technology and ensures VAIO users truly experience a level of quality that exceeds expectations. Nothing matches the inspiring look and sheer presence of Sony VAIO Red."

Despite the glossy finish of the red paint, owed to the UV coating, the laptops are supposed to shrug off most scratches and minor wear.

All in all, Sony's release isn't a bad move from 13.3-inch to 15.6-inch mobile PCs with Intel Core 7 CPUs, up to 12 GB of DDR3 memory, and up to 512 GB of storage space.

Sadly, the prices will be a bit painful. The lowest is $1,999.99 / €1,999.99 for the VAIO Fit 15, while the highest is $2,999.99 / €2,999.99 for the VAIO Duo 13 Ultrabook. The VAIO Pro 13 is a bit below that mark, at $2,599.99 / €2,599.99.
