Codenamed 712MG, the latest luxury mobile phone manufactured by Mobiado, the Mokume Gane, has just been announced. The name of the phone comes from the Japanese language and means “wood grain metal”.

According to the manufacturer, the process of bonding mixed-metal was invented by Denbei Shoami (1651-1728) in 17th-century Feudal Japan and was used for sword fittings, just as the katana, the main weapon at that time, started to decline its ascension and artisans were forced to create purely decorative items.

Mobiado also marks a premiere with the launch of the 712MG, as the first phone to be created from Mokume Gane

The manufacturing process implies the use of several materials such as copper, nickel silver and brass, which are put through a thorough seven step cleaning process, which is the key to preventing material delimitation.

The next step in the production line is stacking and wrapping of the layers in steel foil, in an air tight environment.

The ingot obtained is then fused through heat and pressure for 2 to 3 hours in an electric furnace. It is then forged, hand twisted and forged again to create the final material of Mokume Gane.

The top of the phone is precision engraved with the designers’ signature and inlayed with a white or black diamond.

The buttons of the Classic 712MG are crafted from an array of sapphire crystal buttons (hand painted with 24 Carat yellow gold, 18 Carat rose gold and silver) giving the phone a total of 204.5 Carats of sapphire crystal.

The battery cover is made entirely from a single piece of sapphire crystal and incorporates a unique hidden sliding battery cover mechanism (patent pending).

When it comes to tech specs the device is advertised as being quad-band GSM (GSM 850/900/1800/1900) and triple band WCDMA Band I, II and VIII (2100/1900/900) compatible with coverage on all five continents.

Furthermore, the phone comes with a standard 2.2-inch QVGA display, 5 megapixel camera and video camera with flash, integrated GPS, web browser, email support and music player.

The Mobiado Classic 712 Mokume Gane is available now for $4,180.
