The Windows Phone 8.1 operating system version is currently rolling out to the owners of Lumia handsets out there in the form of Lumia Cyan, providing users with a variety of new features and enhancements, including various camera improvements.

However, in addition to a simplified user interface in Nokia Camera, easier access to manual controls and video, or a better Camera Roll, users can also enjoy a series of new applications meant to deliver an even better overall imaging experience to them.

The Camera Roll in Windows Phone 8.1 includes features such as inline playback of videos, Cinemagraphs, Refocus images, and Living Images, which are available for the owners of Lumia 930, Lumia 1520, and Lumia Icon handsets.

At the same time, users can take advantage of apps such as Facetune, which was designed to easily enhance photos of people, courtesy of tweaks such as whitening teeth, removing blemishes, and smoothing skin.

The application comes with other powerful image-editing tools as well, allowing for even more retouches. However, as a recent post on Nokia Conversations reads, users might need some time to get accustomed with the app’s capabilities.

Another great app for Windows Phone 8.1 devices is Walgreens, which is actually available only in the United States. This app allows users to easily search for local stores and scan reward cards and also offers photo-printing capabilities.

“Straight from your Camera Roll, Facebook, Instagram, OneDrive and Walgreens.com albums, you can edit, order and pick-up prints, posters canvasses in super-quick time from your local Walgreens store,” said blog post explains.

SNAPCAM is another great camera app for Lumia users, available for free for all owners of Lumia devices out there and enabling users to easily take great shots, create digital photobooks, or share photos with friends and/or family.

Additionally, Lumia users can easily print photos in high-resolution straight from their smartphones with the help of PhotoMart. These prints can then be picked up at a Walmart store (which makes the app useful only in the US).

Moreover, owners of Windows Phone 8.1-based Lumia devices can enjoy the features and capabilities of Creative Studio 6, which has been designed to make editing of photos faster and more fun.

Not long ago, the application was updated with a brand new interface, as well as with new filters, all of which can be easily applied to photos in Camera Roll. The app also comes with more picture control, including adjustment of shadows, clarity, vibrancy, and color tone.

“CS6 also supports dual-capture reframing, meaning you can rotate, straighten and change the aspect ratio of any image after you’ve shot it. You can do this as many times as you wish without any drop in image quality,” Nokia Conversations explains.

All these applications are available for download via the Windows Phone Store today.
