14 DAY TRIAL // If you’re one of the many Windows Phone users who can’t wait for Lumia Denim, it’s time to start the party because it appears that Microsoft has finally commenced the long-awaited rollout of the new firmware version.
Unfortunately for those who own a flagship, such as the Lumia 930 or Lumia 1520, Microsoft will actually launch the firmware update for other phone models, so you still have to wait a little bit longer to get it.
According to Microsoft’s own website, Lumia Denim is now being shipped to Lumia 520, 525, 526, 625, 720, 720T, and 1320 in China, and even though no any other specifics were provided for other countries or phone models, we’re hearing that everyone should be getting it by year-end.
‘So what’s the plan?’ you could ask. Basically, Microsoft is trying to roll out the firmware update for the most popular phone models out there and only then make Denim available for everyone else. That’s indeed a smart decision, but there’s no doubt that those with flagships might feel betrayed.
How to check for updates
So, users in China can get Denim right away, but what if the firmware update does not show up on their phones? Is there any other solution to check for new updates?
The only thing you can do right now is manually check for updates, so launching the Check for updates option in the “Phone update” menu in “Settings” is the only available option right now.
The biggest problem obviously concerns flagship owners who spent hundreds of dollars on their phones and still need to wait to get Denim. Initially, we’ve heard from people close to the matter that Microsoft was actually planning to make Denim available for Lumia 930 and Lumia 1520 and only then update the other phone models on the market.
What’s in Denim?
First and foremost, Lumia Denim comes with a plethora of improvements for phone cameras, so expect increased speed and processing quality when taking photos after deploying the new firmware.
At the same time, Lumia Denim will bring all improvements that were previously released with Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1, including Cortana and live folders. What’s more, it’ll bring a new option called “Hey Cortana,” that will allow users to launch the personal assistant with a voice command and thus without the need to touch the phone.
