Owners of Nokia Lumia 1520 smartphones worldwide should be able to download and install the new Lumia Cyan software update now, as the deployment has just started for the various country variants of the device.

The operating system upgrade was spotted on the Lumia 1520 last week, but it was available only for select models, in select countries.

Today, however, the official Lumia Cyan update tracker shows that the update is available on all markets out there, albeit only for the country variants as of now.

The only market that marks an exception is the United States, where the update is available for download for Lumia 1520 smartphones on the network of wireless carrier AT&T.

Those of you who will head over to the official update page on Nokia’s website will see that the OS refresh is currently listed as rolling out to handsets in most markets in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America, and in the Middle East.

However, as mentioned above, only the country variants of the Lumia 1520 are receiving the update, which means that it is available only for those who purchased the phone unlocked.

Wireless carriers in these territories are still testing the new platform iteration, and it might take a while longer before they start pushing it out as well.

The Lumia Cyan upgrade will provide users with all of the enhancements and new features that the Windows Phone 8.1 operating system was unveiled with, as well as with a series of improvements specific to Lumia devices.

This means that users will receive functionality such as Action Center, Word Flow, Start Screen backgrounds, Wi-Fi Sense, a new column of customized Live Tiles, improvements to People Hub, Internet Explorer 11, Cortana, and more.

These are features that Microsoft packed inside Windows Phone 8.1, and which will be rolling out to all owners of Windows Phone 8 devices out there.

Enhancements coming from Nokia include updates to Nokia Camera, Creative Studio and Storyteller, Creative Studio 6 (CS6) in Camera Roll, Nokia Device Hub, and others.

Moreover, Lumia 1520 will receive additional camera improvements, including Nokia Rich Recording and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 sound, continuous autofocus, better RAW DNG images, Living Images, and improved low-light performance.

One thing that you should keep in mind, however, is the fact that Lumia Cyan is available only for devices running under Windows Phone 8.

This means that those of you who installed Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview will need to roll back to commercial software in order to receive the new platform upgrade. However, you can also remain on the Developer Preview release and install the Windows Phone 8.1 Update when it comes out next week.
