Lumia Denim is coming, that’s for sure, and although no specifics are available on the release date for each Microsoft phone, some features expected to be part of this new firmware version have already reached the web in one way or another.

The video we have here, which was brought to our attention by reddit user veenthepooh2487, shows the new version of Lumia Camera in action on a Lumia 830 already upgraded to Denim and boasting better loading speed and HDR support.

All these features will be available for every single Lumia phone upgraded to Denim in the coming weeks, and there’s no doubt that the insane camera boot time is what makes most people really excited about this new release.

Denim rollout to begin this month

Microsoft initially promised to begin the Lumia Denim rollout in the fourth quarter of the year, but since it’s already December and the new firmware hasn’t arrived yet, some people believe that the company might actually delay the release for a few more months.

What we’re hearing, however, is that Microsoft will actually begin the Lumia Denim launch on flagships this month, so the Lumia 930 and the Lumia 1520 are very likely to get it in the next couple of weeks. The company has already confirmed that Denim development has been completed, so the carrier approval is all we need in order to get our hands on the new firmware.

On the other hand, the rest of the Lumia lineup is expected to receive the new firmware in the upcoming months, so the rollout could very well be pushed to 2015.

What’s in Denim?

In addition to improvements that were already part of Windows Phone 8.1, which include Cortana, live folders, and plenty of other enhancements, Lumia Denim will also come with a plethora of updates for the camera, so better quality and faster loading times are very likely to be offered after deploying the new firmware.

What’s more, those who enjoy using the personal assistant will also be provided with an option called “Hey Cortana,” that would allow them to activate the feature by simply calling her name. This feature will only be available on select devices, but flagships are obviously among those to get it.

We’ve again reached out to Microsoft to get more information on the Lumia rollout, so we’ll update the article when and if we receive an answer. Either way, there’s no doubt that the Lumia Denim release is imminent.
