14 DAY TRIAL // Lumia 930 and 1520 owners are finally getting their hands on the Lumia Denim update even if they’re living on the Old Continent, but it appears that the new firmware version is available only to a specific number of countries for the time being.
The Lumia Denim rollout started a couple of days ago and initially included very affordable models exclusively, among which the Lumia 520 in several countries in both Asia and Europe.
But while flagships were neglected at first, it appears that Microsoft is actually pushing the update for these devices as well, but only in few European countries, with the rest expected to get it in the next few days, as carrier testing and approval continues.
Only in Scandinavian countries
Before putting on your party hat, there's one thing that you should know. Even though Lumia Denim is now available for flagships too, it's only offered to those living in Scandinavian countries, such as Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden in 930's case.
As far as Lumia 1520 is concerned, the 6-incher is also getting the new Denim update, but again only in few countries in both Asia and Europe. Large markets such as Germany, Italy, France, and Spain are yet to receive it.
The Denim rollout will continue in the next few weeks and Microsoft promised to update the whole Lumia lineup until the end of January, so expect to get your hands on the new firmware anytime soon.
Microsoft partners still testing Denim
As it usually happens when Microsoft rolls out a new firmware update for its phones, the company is waiting for carrier approval for the new Denim in countries across the globe, so unless it receives the go-ahead from them, the updated firmware won't reach your phone.
In a statement released today, Microsoft said that all Lumia phones would get the update by the end of January, but no other specifics were provided.
"The Lumia Denim update has started rolling out to a limited number of devices in selected markets, and will continue arriving in waves by device. A wider rollout of Lumia Denim to all Lumia smartphones running Windows Phone 8.1 is expected to begin in early January, following partner testing and approvals," Microsoft said.
If you want to see if Denim is ready for your device, launch settings on Windows Phone, open "Phone Update" and hit the "Check for updates" option. Make sure that you're connected to a Wi-Fi network before starting the download and that the battery is full to successfully complete installation.
