Devices running under Microsoft’s new Windows Phone 8 operating system are selling like hot cakes, the latest news on the matter suggest.

Nokia’s Lumia 920 smartphone has seen great response from end users ever since it was put up for pre-order, both in the United States and elsewhere, and HTC’s Windows Phone 8X smartphone appears to be sharing a similar fate.

At the moment, both devices are said to be out of stock at various Microsoft Stores, supposedly a proof of their great popularity among end users.

"Out of Stock: Nokia 920 and HTC 8X. Taking orders inside," a sheet of paper posted on the door of one Microsoft Store reads, just as the photo shared by Microsoft’s Ben Rudolph shows.

Nokia’s Lumia 920 is available in the US only at AT&T, but the Windows Phone 8X is set to arrive at other carriers as well, including T-Mobile and Verizon.

Live Tiles vs Dead Tiles
Man these Windows 8 phones are ALL gone. The Nokia Lumina 920s are out all across the USA, Italy, France and China. But I just started looking at the HTC 8X - same thing - St Pete, San Jose, Chicago, Atlanta, Denver ... it doesn't matter - gone. (Check for yourself with the ATT.COM in-store availability checker).

Now, I find out today from ATT that my pre-order Red Lumina 920 (ordered on 11/08) won't ship to me maybe until 11/20 ("and we cannot promise that").

Windows Phone 8 has been long awaited and Microsoft will be handsomely rewarded for putting their effort into this.

At this point you now finally have a choice - a "Live Tile" U/I, or a "Dead Tile" U/I.

I hope they get the supply worked out but frankly after the past Windows Phone experiences, I can't blame them for under-estimating their own success.
