The carrier initially stated the phone will come on July 16

Microsoft has already launched the Lumia 640 in the United States, but it's only available at Cricket Wireless. While we do know that the Windows Phone handset will arrive at T-Mobile as well, the carrier offered little info on when that might happen.

Since the smartphone is already listed on T-Mobile's website as “Coming Soon,” people have asked the carrier how soon “soon” is. Eventually, a T-Mobile rep replied and said that Lumia 640 would be available for purchase on July 16.

We have already reported on that and we also said that we hoped that was a mistake from T-Mobile's part since July 16 is way later than what we've been expecting.

It turns out that it was a mistake indeed and that the Lumia 640 is still on track for a “spring” release at T-Mobile.

The carrier confirmed on Twitter that the previous July 16 release date was referring to Lumia 635's launch from last year and was wrongfully quoted by a T-Mobile rep.

“The device can make or break the deal. We totally get it! This date was a representative of T-Mobile that accidently quoted the release date of the Nokia Lumia 635 to a customer. This is 100% our error. The closest we have to a specific date for the Lumia 640 is ‘Spring.’”

The smartphone is expected to go on sale in May

That being said, we expect the Lumia 640 to arrive at T-Mobile within the next two weeks because after this month, the “spring” timeframe will no longer apply.

As many of you probably know by now, Lumia 640 is one of the few smartphones that ship with Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 right out of the box.

However, multiple Windows Phone handsets, other than Lumia, have received the update in the last couple of days.

Still, beside the BLU Win HD LTE which sells in the United States, the Lumia 640 has no competition when it comes to latest Windows Phone software.
