The smartphone might cost around $100 off contract

Many Windows Phone fans in the United States are still waiting for T-Mobile to launch the Lumia 640. Although the smartphone is already available in the country at Cricket Wireless, customers need to pay $130 upfront in order to get it.

On the other hand, the T-Mobile Lumia 640 might cost just $100 outright. The smartphone was recently spotted at a certain Walmart location, but it sold out very quickly since only two units were available for purchase.

According to T-Mobile, Microsoft Lumia 640 is still on track for a spring release, but the carrier did not share any details on the phone's exact release date.

However, we've been tipped about a contest that MetroPC is running where those who pre-register for the Lumia 640 can win one.

Each week the carrier gives away one Lumia 640 smartphone to a lucky winner, along with 3 months unlimited nationwide talk, text and data.

Those who pre-register will be the first to know when the Lumia 640 will be available for purchase at MetroPCS, and can win their favorite smartphone in the process as well.

An Xbox One and a Surface Pro 3 tablet are among the prizes too

Apparently, this contest will end on June 15, which is why it's possible that both MetroPCS and T-Mobile will make the Lumia 640 available around that date.

It's also worth mentioning that MetroPCS (possibly T-Mobile too) will offer a promotion where those who purchase the Lumia 640 will also receive a 1-year subscription of Office 365 Personal.

Once again, since we don't have any confirmation from either T-Mobile or MetroPCS, take this information as a speculation until the carriers make an official announcement.

Still, we will keep an eye out for any additional details on the matter, so stay tuned for more into on Lumia 640's upcoming release.

Thanks for the tip Matt Garner!
