14 DAY TRIAL // Lumia 620 and Lumia 820, two of the first smartphones that Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia has made available for purchase with Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 operating system loaded on top, can be purchased at the moment in the UK with a free Windows 8 upgrade in tow, WPCentral has found out.
The handsets are being offered with this upgrade through The Carphone Warehouse, and can be purchased both online and through the retailer’s stores in the country.
The deal, however, appears to have been put in place by Nokia, as those users interested in taking advantage of it will have to head over to nokiapcupgrade.com to redeem their free Windows 8 OS upgrade.
Furthermore, the retailer notes that the promotion will be available only until March 31, 2013, and that it is open to all UK residents that are 16 years of age or older. Only one claim per purchased Nokia Lumia 820 or Lumia 620 can be made.
Following the acquisition of a new device, users will need to access the aforementioned website after 14 days following the purchase and enter a unique code they have been provided with, along with the IMEI number of their handset.
“Redemptions accepted for up to 44 days after purchase (claims cannot be submitted for 14 days, leaving 30 day claim period),” the retailer explains.
“Windows 8 Pro PC Upgrade has specific system requirements: 1GHz processor, 2GB RAM, 20GB available hard disk space, 1366x768 screen resolution, DirectX 9 graphics processor with WDDM driver, Internet access (fees may apply) Microsoft account required for some features.”
The handsets, on the other hand, are available for purchase with monthly contracts starting at £14 per month for the Lumia 620, and at £25 per month for the Lumia 820. Both handsets are offered at no upfront cost, and can be purchased in various color flavors.
