Today, Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia has officially announced the availability of its Lumia 520 smartphone on Canadian soil, and has also confirmed that the device will be released at Koodo and TELUS soon, in addition to arriving at Rogers today.

The mobile phone was launched as the cheapest Windows Phone 8 device in Nokia’s lineup, and will be released with an affordable price tag attached to it at both wireless carriers, Nokia said.

"The device is also available at Koodo on May 9th in black for $150 or $0 on the tab. On May 17th, it will be available at TELUS in black for $149 with a TELUS pre-paid plan," the company announced.

The Nokia Lumia 520 was released with a 4-inch touchscreen display and with a 1 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor packed inside, as well as with 512MB of Ram.

The smartphone also features 8GB of internal memory, along with a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 64GB of additional storage space.

Furthermore, Nokia packed the handset with features that are present on its high-end smartphones, including the Cinemagraph lens app, so that users would get the most out of the device’s 5-megapixel photo snapper.

Additionally, the new mobile phone features a Smart Shoot function, for the creation of a single, perfect shot from multiple images, as well as with a Panorama lens app, so that users could capture super-wide-angled photos with ease.

"By offering better experiences at a more affordable price, the Nokia Lumia 520 is a perfect phone for Canadians wanting a taste of some of that high-end innovation that Nokia is known for without the high price tag," said Matt Rothschild, vice president, Nokia North America.

Other features packed inside the new device include Nokia’s popular HERE applications, such as HERE Maps, HERE Drive and HERE Transport, meant to deliver fast access to extensive mapping services such as search, satellite, journey planner for public transit, downloadable maps for offline use, and more.
