Microsoft continues its work to expand the Lumia series of phones, and it turns out that a new model is already in the pipeline and could see daylight in the coming months.

With Lumia 435, Microsoft is trying not only to expand its own smartphone lineup but also to start a new series of devices that could be available with an insanely low price, even below the one of Lumia 520 and Lumia 530. Some people have even pointed to a $49 (€35) price tag for this new device, but it’s pretty clear that it’s way too early to discuss such details.

Lumia 435 was and still is a big enigma for most of us, but the Brazilian regulation body called ANATEL (Agencia Nacional de Telecomunicacoes) has recently approved a new device running Windows Phone.

Nokia and not Microsoft

Probably the most surprising thing in these revealed details is that the Lumia 435 is not called Microsoft, but Nokia, which is a bit surprising, given the fact that Redmond itself is working to bring more phones wearing its badge to the market.

As reported by WindowsCentral, Lumia 435 could indeed be very affordable, and the early specifications that have been provided through unofficial channels seem to be living proof that Microsoft is indeed aiming in that direction.

For example, Lumia 435 could ship with a 4-inch display with a resolution of 800x480px, a Snapdragon 200 CPU, and a 5-megapixel camera. The phone could measure 64.7 x 118.1 mm and ship with dual-SIM support.

Needless to say, this is going to be another device supposed to target developing countries, and although it could also be launched in the United States and other strong markets, there’s no doubt that the biggest sales would be experienced in Asia, India and other states where affordable phones are selling like hot cakes.

The Lumia 435 could be unveiled later this year at MWC 2015, but don’t be too surprised if Microsoft also talks about it at the January 21 Windows 10 event in Redmond.
