Lucy Liu, 37, will star as famous detective Charlie Chan's granddaughter in the Hollywood update of the detective series popular in the 1930s and 1940s, she is also set to executive produce.
Dan McDermott was hired by 20th Century Fox to pen the script to a new "Charlie Chan" movie, about the Honolulu police detective invented by Earl Derr Biggers. Producer Jennifer Klein has recently joined the long-gestating project, as well.
McDermott declared the project is "a reinvention of the franchise that credibly passes on the baton to Lucy Liu as the lead character and lead of the franchise", according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Meanwhile, Lucy Liu ("Ally McBeal", "Kill Bill vol.1", will next be seen in the Tony Scott film, "Domino," a drama loosely based on the life of bounty hunter Domino Harvey, but also in other films like the indie drama 3 Needles, the thriller Lucky Number Slevin, the vampire film Rise or New Line's comedy The Cleaner.
