Lucy Lawless will return as Lucretia for season 2 of “Spartacus: Blood and Sand”

Fans of the popular Starz series “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” still crying over Andy Whitfield’s replacement should know that at least one member of the original main cast will return to season 2, as surprising as it may sound: Lucy Lawless.

In a recent interview (cited by 411 Mania), the actress has confirmed that she will reprise her role as Lucretia in the upcoming season of the show, promising lots of goodies to come with it.

As fans must already know, season 1 ended in a literal bloodbath, with Batiatus and Lucretia both stabbed in the gladiators’ upheaval and presumed dead.

As it turns out, not both of them have perished in the final confrontation, even if viewers at home were led to presume so: Lucretia still lives and will want to get her revenge in the upcoming episodes.

“I know a couple of very broad strokes. I have incredible faith in these writers. I would be shocked if it wasn’t as brilliant as everything else [we’ve done],” Lucy says of her reprising the role of Domina and what fans should expect from the second season of the series.

“Lucretia’s had something very precious, the only thing precious to her, taken away from her and there’ll be hell to pay,” the actress adds, refraining for giving away too much of the plot.

This could mean that Lucretia will be out for revenge for the death of her husband, or for that of her unborn child or for both. As the saying goes, only time will tell.

The second season of “Spartacus” will air on Starz starting January 2012, so it’s still a long way to go until then – which also means more details will emerge by then.

Sadly, Andy Whitfield, who is again seeking treatment for non-Hodgkin lymphoma (a more aggressive one, this time), will not be able to reprise his role as Spartacus and has been replaced with Australian actor Liam McIntyre, much to fans’ disappointment, as we also informed you at the time.
