The man who brought the 'Star Wars' franchise to the world made one of the largest donations in history, in an attempt to bring back into focus one of the seven arts, that is mostly overlooked in the academic world. George Lucas gave away $175 million to the University of Southern California, his alma mater.

The generous offer will be divided in two, according to the director, speaking in an interview with Reuters: $75 million will go for the construction of a building that is to replace the one he built a while ago, while the remaining $100 million will establish an endowment that, hopefully, will expand via more fund raising.

'In the academic world, movies are not very high up on the radar... Movies are kind of down there, sort of a sub-set of a liberal arts education. I wanted to send a signal... to all the universities that have film schools', Lucas said after her announced the faculty about the donation.

The director is now working with another big name in the movie industry, Steven Spielberg, to produce the fourth installment of 'Indiana Jones'. On a less positive side of things, Lucas also announced that, once shooting for 'Indiana' finishes, he will no longer dedicate his career to blockbuster movies, focusing instead on television films that will also be available for download.
