Quite a while ago, a woman from San Donaci, Italy adopted a stray German shepherd, named it Tommy and started taking it with her everywhere she went, even if that meant “forcing” the dog to attend the Sunday mass service held at a local church.

In spite of the fact that Maria Margherita Lochi passed away about two months ago, Tommy still goes to church every Sunday. According to Daily Mail, it only does so because it hopes that Maria will one day return.

“'He used to come to Mass with Maria and he was obviously devoted to her - I let him stay inside as he was always so well behaved and none of the other parishoners ever complained to me,” father Donato Panna said.

“He's still coming to Mass even after Maria's funeral, he waits patiently by the side of the altar and just sits there quietly,” he went on to add.

Apparently, almost everybody who comes to this church on a regular basis is very fond of Tommy, and many do not hesitate to bring him something to eat.

I've been told a dog has no soul. That may be true. But what it does have is an undying love for the human or humans that care for it and I have personally discovered they will defend their master(s) even if it means surrendering their own life. There is an old thought/saying "all dogs go to heaven". ?????

I'm going to cry. I've always loved the story of Hachi-ko, and this one is just as sad. I hope Tommy goes to meet Maria in heaven soon. So he won't needlessly suffer.

The Priest should adopt Tommy ! He should ask for Money to be sent to his church to help for Tommies health and welfare . That should be encouragement enough for the Priest since he's turned a blind eye to the dog that has been seeking his Love !
