A subsidized version of the next-gen console might be sold by cable companies

The Xbox One could be offered by Sky TV as a set-top box alternative for a lower price, as Microsoft is rumored to have already signed a contract with the UK cable provider.

Microsoft flaunted Xbox One's abilities to control TV content and, apparently, the company is signing different deals with cable providers so that they can offer the Xbox One instead of a regular set-top box.

MCV now reports that Microsoft has just signed a contract with Sky, which will see the provider offer a subsidized Xbox One to subscribers who sign up for a contract.

This deal could work well not just for cable providers, who can score new subscribers, but also for Microsoft, as the likes of Sky can sell the Xbox One at a lower price.

As of yet, Microsoft hasn't commented on this report.
