BioWare is punishing those who upset the game's economy with exploits

BioWare has just confirmed a series of temporary bans issued to a variety of Star Wars: The Old Republic players, specifically low level users who used an exploit to get high level items and equipment, thus upsetting the in-game balance and its economy.

Star Wars: The Old Republic was released last month and, since then, BioWare has been extremely busy, trying to help players stuck in long queues or those who encountered problems, while punishing people who used different exploits.

Among those who tried to cheat the system, according to the studio, there were low level players who visited planet Ilum, even if they didn’t meet the recommended level of 40. On that planet, they managed to reach the end of some quests and get rewarded with high level items.

While this isn’t necessarily wrong, considering it’s BioWare’s fault that the areas are a bit too easy, it seems some people started using this procedure as an exploit, prompting BioWare to start issuing temporary bans.

In order to prevent any inaccurate reports, the studio even posted an announcement on the official forum of the online game.

"To be completely clear, while players may choose to travel to Ilum earlier than the recommended level (40+) and may loot containers if they can get to them. In the cases of those customers that were warned or temporarily suspended, they were systematically and repeatedly looting containers in very high numbers resulting in the game economy becoming unbalanced.”

"None of these accounts were [permanently] banned for their actions and no accounts have been banned for travelling to Ilum while still relatively low level."

The studio confirmed, however, that tweaks would be made to Ilum through a future patch in order to discourage players from trying their luck in areas they were not capable of traversing.

BioWare already plans to resolve quite a lot of other glitches with new updates, while continuing to punish those who exploit Star Wars: The Old Republic.
