Motorola pushes the latest software upgrade to Moto E 4G

Motorola introduced the second-generation Moto E with LTE back in February, which proved to be a pretty capable smartphone selling for a very affordable price tag. And as of today, boasting Android 5.1 Lollipop too.

The handset sells for only $149.99 / €131 unlocked and is considered one of the best options for customers who don’t want to burn a hole in their budget when purchasing a handset.

At launch, the device shipped out with Android 5.0 Lollipop on board, but as you might as well know by now, Motorola has been pretty quick to provide updates for its smartphones.

A few days ago, we told you that the company announced it was initiating a soak test for the first-gen Moto X, which is receiving Android 5.1 Lollipop directly.

Motorola is not ignoring its less powerful smartphones

The good news is that Motorola is applying the same treatment to its less-advanced smartphones, including the Moto E 4G mentioned above.

The new build is rolling out for the LTE version of the Moto E in the US, but the older 3G model isn’t getting it for the time being, as reported by Droid-Life.

Keep in mind that software updates like this one roll out in stages, which means it’s possible that you won’t see your device getting updated right off the bat and might have to wait a few days or even weeks for that to happen, depending of your location.

When the new build arrives for your device, you will most likely receive a notification alerting you that Android 5.1 has become available.

The software update will add support for multiple SIM cards, Device Protection and HD voice on compatible devices. Other changes include easy handling of Wi-Fi toggles, Bluetooth from Quick Settings, improved security and improved heads-up notifications that let users swipe up to collapse.

For those who don’t remember, the Moto E arrives with a 4.5-inch display with 540 x 960 pixel resolution and draws life from a Snapdragon 410 processor fitted with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable storage.

The handset also dons a 5MP rear camera plus a VGA front-facing one for video calling. And with Android 5.1 on board, the affordable handset is only bound to get better, a lot better.
