A man holding two people hostage in Louisiana has been shot and killed in a confrontation with police.

The 20-year-old suspect took two women and a man hostage at Tensas State Bank in the small town of St Joseph.

Fuaed Abdo Ahmed was killed when police stormed the bank after a 12-hour standoff. He barricaded himself inside the bank at roughly 12:30 p.m. yesterday, Daily Mail reported.

“Our utmost concern right now more than anything else is the safety of those hostages,” stated State Police Colonel Mike Edmondson in a press release at the time.

Police got inside the building at around midnight and a fire exchange followed. Ahmed has been pronounced dead by 1 a.m.

One of the hostages has also been killed by the gunman before the police intervention, Fox News writes.

Ahmed had a handgun and a rifle on him when police got to him. He had used the pistol to shoot two of the hostages. According to Edmonson, they incurred gunshot wounds to the upper body.

NBC News described that the gunman was a California resident who works in a convenience store operated by his family locally.

He let one of the hostages go yesterday, before the law enforcement operation. She works as a teller at the bank and she has not been injured.

“At this point, we don’t know if the suspect was trying to commit a robbery,” Tensas Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Civil Deputy Neeci Gregory discussed.

There is no information about the shooter's motive or identity and condition of the survivor.

“It's a quiet town. Very little crime. So this is amazing,” Mayor Edward Brown comments.

“It's kind of startling for the residents. We're not accustomed to this kind of activity,' said Miles. 'Some people are pretty scared. They're nervous,” resident Richardo Miles adds.
