A 12-year-old boy from Oak Grove, Louisiana, has caught a record-breaking catfish in Mississippi River. Lawson Boyte was on a fishing trip with his family on the river when he captured the huge fish.

At Randall's Fine Meats in Monroe, his catch weighed in at 114.1 pounds (51.7 kg), which means the boy broke the previous state record of 110.19 pounds (49,9 kg), set by Keith Day in April 2005.

It seems that in Louisiana, fishermen don't need to travel too far to hit waters loaded with fish, as the Mississippi river gives them the opportunity to score nice catches.

This big capture really represents a big achievement for the school boy, taking into consideration that there are people who have been fishing for longer than he was around, and never caught something that big.

Lawson was really surprised by his catch and admitted he was not expecting the huge fish to fall for his little shad bait.

“It was more luck than it was skill to catch that big fish. I think the thing that done it was eating Vienna sausages,” he said, according to Knoe.com.

Judging by the photos published on social networks, the boy might weigh less than the fish. However, he now has a great fish tale he can tell to his grandsons, pictures to prove it and a great experience to remember.
