This coming April 3, a piece of cloth allegedly tainted with the blood of Louis XVI is to be auctioned off in Paris.

Despite the fact that no DNA tests have thus far been carried out on this cloth to prove that the blood did in fact belong to the late French king, it appears that history enthusiasts can hardly wait for the opportunity of bidding for it. Paul Fraser Collectibles informs us that the bloodstained cloth is to be sold in a miniature coffin, and that the person who gets to take it home will also receive a handwritten note that reads as follows: “The precious blood of Louis XVI, 21 January 1793.”

For those unaware, January 21, 1793 was the day when king Louis XVI was beheaded following the 1789 French Revolution.

Rumor has it that, shortly after the king was guillotined, the people living in Paris took home both such bloodstained cloths and strands of his hair.
