However he was feeling following the operation, the man instantly felt a gazillion times better when he scratched the ticket and realized that, all of a sudden, he was a millionaire.
The man didn't really expect to win anything
The brand new millionaire, 46-year-old Joseph Amorese from Easton, Pennsylvania, got the lucky lottery ticket from his father, who bought it for him from a Just A Dollar store looking to brighten up his mood after surgery.
Neither the man nor his dad really expected him to win anything. Not when there's this rumor going around that one is more likely to get hit by an asteroid falling out of the sky than to win the lottery.
Hence, when he realized that he was holding a winning ticket in his hands, the man was left speechless. In fact, he swears to it that the miraculous lottery ticket and the army of zeros written down on it even made his pain disappear.
“I had surgery so I didn't jump up and down, but in my mind I was jumping up and down. All the pain I felt, I did not feel for at least a couple of days,” Joseph Amorese said in a statement, as cited by Mirror.
The 46-year-old's wife, Jodi, was also shocked to hear about how her husband was suddenly a millionaire. Joseph Amorose's father, on the other hand, had the man send him a photo of the winning ticket so he could verify that it was all true.

Let's face it, most people would immediately quit their job and go touring the world, were they to suddenly win a truckload of money. Joseph Amorese and his wife, however, say that they have to intention to stop working.
Instead, the 46-year-old man will keep his job at Verizon and the woman will remain a social worker. For the time being, they haven't quite figured out what they will do with their brand new fortune.
