The number of metropolitan areas in the United States that would receive 4G coverage this year from, Clearwire should include Los Angeles and San Francisco too, the company has just announced. Following the launch of its 4G WiMAX network in New York in November, the company plans on expanding the services to the said cities too in December.

Starting with December 1st, Los Angeles customers would be able to choose 4G services from either Clearwire Corporation or Sprint, as both companies plan on having the solution available in this market.

Moreover, San Francisco should be covered with WiMAX too before the end of the year, with three services providers launching commercial 4G offerings in the market, namely Clearwire, Comcast and Sprint.

“Clearwire and Sprint will both launch commercial 4G service in Los Angeles on December 1 with official launch events and retail store openings to follow,” the duo notes in a recent press release.

“Clearwire, Comcast and Sprint will each launch commercial 4G service in the San Francisco Bay Area in late December,” the companies announced.

All 4G services mentioned above come on Clearwire’s 4G network, which already covers a number of more than 56 markets around the United States.

Each of the said companies would have the 4G services available for customers in these markets under its own brand, including the CLEAR services for Clearwire, or Sprint 4G for this wireless carrier.

“Clearwire’s 4G service, CLEAR, is take-it-with-you internet service for businesses and consumers. Customers will be able to purchase service online at www.clear.com, followed by retail store and dealer openings,” Clearwire announced.

Comcast offers its 4G services under the name of XFINITY Internet 2go, which “is sold as part of a Fast Pack that bundles the nation’s fastest in-home wired Internet with the nation’s fastest wireless Internet.”

We should also note that Sprint is the first wireless carrier in the United States to offer 4G services and handsets to its users, with the launch of HTC EVO 4G and Samsung Epic 4G on the US market earlier this year.

Sprint’s 4G service is branded Sprint 4G. Sprint 3G/4G dual mode products available today combine Sprint 3G – a dependable nationwide 3G network – with Sprint 4G, for turbo-charged wireless connectivity in 4G coverage areas,” the company notes.
