Tomasz Gop, the developer best known for his work on The Witcher, is currently handling development of Lords of the Fallen, a role-playing experience to be launched on next-generation consoles and on the PC.

He tells Eurogamer that, “It's a challenging game, action RPG, which means a lot of advanced combat. When you walk through a location, and you have to fight 10 enemies, that takes around an hour.”

Gop acknowledges that Dark Souls is an obvious point of reference for Lords of the Fallen but he also name checks fighting games like Mortal Kombat and Tekken and Gearbox’s Borderlands.

The game will be hard because players will have to base their actions on trial and error rather than on simply understating and applying new mechanics.

At the moment, a team of about 40 people is working on Lords of the Fallen.
