A brand-new developer diary and gameplay video has popped up on the Internet, offering more information on the upcoming hack-and-slash role-playing game Lords of the Fallen.

The game is being created by German studio Deck13 and Polish video game maker CI Games, and will be published by Bandai Namco Games, and has a similar look and feel to From Software's Dark Souls, which is why it was nicknamed the European DS.

Tomasz Gop shows and comments on some fighting footage from the upcoming Lords of the Fallen, and talks about how the game's system works, detailing how you have to be mindful of the game's rhythm, and how timing is crucial when it comes to defeating your oftentimes much more powerful adversaries.

The video shows how the upcoming title is situated in the action section of the role-playing game spectrum, and follows the protagonist as he explores some catacombs and takes down one of the bosses.

Learning how to fight in Lords of the Fallen will be the single most important thing, as many times one single well-placed strike can take down an enemy that would otherwise endure much more punishment.

Gop says that you will be able to gauge your progress through the game, as trash mobs that initially cut you down in just a few hits will become gradually easier to defeat, and that you will be able to use the environment to your advantage during engagements, if you pay attention and are able to identify the opportunities to do so.

One such example is drawing out a heavily armored enemy and luring him over a pit covered with only a few wooden planks, that will collapse under his weight and send him to meet his makers at the end of a deadly fall.

The planks won't break when regular opponents step over them, but they may do so if you are wearing the heaviest armor and weapons available, so you always have to watch your step and pay attention to how your environment can help you get rewards you would not otherwise be able to get until much later.

Lords of the Fallen is scheduled to come out on October 28 in North America and October 31 in Europe, for the Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms. The game seems laden with potential, and may well end up being one of the big surprises of the year.
