Developed by Playdek, Lords of Waterdeep is the adaptation of the Dungeons & Dragons board game with the same name, but now working on iOS platform.

The game has been ported to iOS with the purpose of attracting more players to the D&D franchise, but in a way that will allow newcomers to jump in and play on their compatible devices at any time.

Lords of Waterdeep is not necessarily a story-driven game, but it can be if players so desire. This is in fact one of the positive things about the game.

Players can take a more tactical approach and focus only on the strategic part of Lords of Waterdeep, while hardcore fans will be treated with a classic tale of feuding fantasy lords fighting to become the prominent figures in the “City of Splendors.”

For those unfamiliar with the Dungeons & Dragons' Forgotten Realms settings, Waterdeep, also known as the City of Splendors, is “a city run by a secret society of masked Lords who rule with shady back-door dealings and unmatched political power.”

The game puts players in the shoes of one of these masked Lords and will need to recruit adventurers to go out and complete quests for them.

In order to have more control and influence over the city, players will need to complete more quests so the more powerful your adventurers are the more quests they will be able to complete.

There's more to it, as players can expand the city by purchasing buildings that will open up new opportunities within the city walls. Creators of the game also throw in something called “intrigue cards,” which can be used to help the player and may also either help or hinder their fellow Lords in their quests.

Lords of Waterdeep is played like a turn-based strategy game with 8 rounds. You can play against AI or with up to 5 human players. At the end of the 8 rounds bonus points are awarded and the player with the most points at the end wins the game.

You can now download Lords of Waterdeep for iOS for $6.99 / €5.99 via App Store. Keep in mind the game is fully compatible with all iPhone, iPad and iTouch devices powered by iOS 4.3 and up. It is also worth mentioning one purchased on a device, it can be played on any other compatible devices.
