Lorde releases new video for “Hunger Games” soundtrack song “Yellow Flicker Beat”

Lorde is the kind of person who, on her birthday, likes to give other people gifts. For example, this year, on her 18th birthday, she decided to give her fans a first look at her newest video for the song “Yellow Flicker Beat.”

The video is directed by Emily Kai bock and it manages to set a somber and dark mood right from the start. The Kiwi singer can be seen sitting along in a motel room on a bed, looking out the window, before the film cuts to her sitting on a deserted highway and then an airplane hangar.

Speaking about the video, Lorde gushed, “This video is something I'm really proud of. When I was dreaming it up, I wasn't thinking too hard about story or a specific narrative, more a mood; a harsh, crackling heat. ‘Yellow Flicker Beat’ is about Katniss realizing that things have crossed a line, about being pushed to the edge and right over it.”

She is, of course, referring to Katniss Everdeen, the main character in “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1,” since the song is featured on the soundtrack of the movie adaptation.

The soundtrack also includes songs by The Chemical Brothers and Kanye West and it's slated to be released in the United States on November 18. The movie itself will open in theaters on November 21.
