The development team working on The Lord of the Rings Online announces that gamers will be able to finally reach Minas Tirith in 2015, which means that they will be able to experience and actively take part in the titanic battle that takes place before the walls of the white city.

In an official announcement coming from Aaron Campbell, the executive producer of the MMO, the studio explains that gamers will start in Osgiliath and then encounter a number of areas that have been attacked by the armies of Sauron as they move towards the Pelennor Fields and Minas Tirith.

The developer from Turbine states, “As you can tell, we’re in the heart of the story now. It is a tremendous challenge for the team to do justice to these well-known events, but also one we’re thrilled to be undertaking.”

Fans of the title are invited to offer their suggestions about the future of the MMO on the official forums.

The Lord of the Rings Online was one of the first experiences in the genre to make the switch to the free-to-play model and has reaped the rewards, with a solid revenue stream allowing the Turbine team to deliver a constant drop of new content as it follows the story of the Ring.
