Video game developer Turbine has announced that it is preparing to deliver a whole new free update for its MMO The Lord of the Rings Online, part of Volume III of the game.
It will be called
Lost Legends of Eriados and will introduce both a number of new instances and skirmishes and new items for the LOTRO Store.
The new content will be launched on May 23.
Players who are between level 40 and 65 will be able to visit the Halls of the Night, where a Barrow-wight, an ancient force of evil, will imprison the souls of the players, with the only chance of escaping being to battle the monster and its minions.
Access will also be opened up to the Inn of the Forsaken, for players who are level 20 to 65, where they will have a shot at getting a ruby necklace after battling guardians who never need to sleep and getting past a series of traps while exploring a ship that has somehow ended up underground.
There are also two new skirmishes to try out, with Attack at Dawn ready for those who have leveled their character past 30, and Icy Crevase, for those who are level 40 or better.
The new cooperative battles will see players try to stop a goblin assault on a training ground for Rangers and destroy an evil wizard before he can launch an attack from Angmar.
The LOTRO Store will offer access to two new costumes and to a new scroll which resets the Skirmish Marks.
A new Scroll of Combination, which increases critical chance, is also available.
Lost Legends of Eriador might be the last update that Turbine delivers for The Lord of the Rings Online before the big expansion that is being planned for the fall, called Rise of Isengard.
